Everyone deserves a safe and loving home.

Shuktara is a home for young adults — boys and girls with physical or mental disabilities who have no family to care for them. Here, they are not residents. They are family.

About Us

A star, a flame, and a family that keeps it burning.

Shuktara believes that everyone deserves a safe and loving home.

Life at shuktara Lali and Ashok sharing a moment

A home, in every sense of the word.

Shuktara is a home for young adults — boys and girls who have physical or mental disabilities and no family to care for them. From our home in Kolkata, we provide what every person deserves and too many are denied: safety, dignity, belonging, and love that doesn't come with conditions or an end date.

"Our commitment to the care of our children and young adults is integral to shuktara — and the honest, straightforward way we deal with anything that comes our way is surely one of the main reasons shuktara continues to inspire so many people."

The people who live here aren't beneficiaries or cases. They are Tamina, Guria, Moni, Aakash, Pappu, Bappa — brothers and sisters who cook together, celebrate together, look after one another, and grow old together as a family.

A home, not an institution

Meals cooked together, birthdays celebrated, festivals shared. Life at shuktara looks like life in any close-knit family — because that's exactly what it is.

Care for life

Nobody ages out of shuktara. Our commitment to each young adult — their health, therapy, education and happiness — lasts a lifetime.

Honest & straightforward

We deal openly with everything that comes our way — and publish our audited financial reports for anyone to inspect. Trust is earned in the open.
